As I continue to explore the wonderful world of historical knitting, I ran across a pattern for an Opera Hood that looked pretty neat. I found the pattern on Ravelry, and it comes form the Godey’s Lady’s Book from 1856.
An explanation of the pattern is posted on the blog, Ephemeral Chaos.
The original image and pattern are in the Godey’s Lady’s Book from 1856 located at HathiTrust here:

(image 1154 has the image of the hood, and the pattern is on image 1224)

I had a bunch of Mounty Holyoke cashmere that I had purchased and never used, so I decided to make a shawl and opera hood from this beautiful yarn that is now discontinued. The hood is basically finished, except I need to sew up the back and add the edging. It is surprisingly warm. These are photos of mea wearing it without having done anything other than the knitting.
